Do you know what you’re breathing?

The Facts  on what you breathe in at a rate of 2300 gallons of air per day:

  • Most of us spend about 90% of our adult lives indoors.
  • Household dust is present in the cleanest homes.  That dust is made up of mold spores, bacteria, viruses, pet dander, human skin particles, fabric fibers, dust mites, cockroach parts, food particles and other debris.
  • Inexpensive filters found in hardware stores are only about 10% efficient for the largest particles.
  • Orlando ranks #5 out of 100 metropolitan areas for the most challenging places to live because of allergies; Gainesville having a similar geographic make-up
  • Children breathe at faster rates than adults, inhaling 50% more air per pound of body weight than adults.
  • Eight out of 10 people in the US are exposed to house dust mites, and six out of 10 are exposed to cat and dog dander.
  • The EPA names indoor air quality as one of the top five environmental risks. 

Simple things can you do to improve the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) in your home:

  • Clean your home regularly.
  • On mild weather days, open the windows in your home to circulate fresh air.
  • Change the filters in your air conditioner once a month.
  • Burn candles, which help to eliminate dust.
  • Maintain your air conditioner with regularly scheduled maintenance.
