- Mammography still considered gold standard for early detection of breast cancer.
- Women 40 and older are recommended to get a mammogram every year.
- Women at high risk for breast cancer (i.e. family history), are encouraged to begin screening exams at age 30.
- 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer at some point in their life.
- Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women.
- Age alone is not a reason to stop screening. If a woman is in good health, she should continue getting routine mammograms based her physician’s direction.
